How long does it take for withdrawal symptoms from prescription painkillers to go away

He is going to have to wean himself off of it slowly. I've been on them for many years for sickle cell, & it is hard. Slowly decrease the dose. Now, his body is going to say 'what the heck', & give him what is called 'ghost pain', which will make him think that he needs to go back to his old dose. But, if he can stick it out, & wean himself slowly, it should be okay within two weeks. For ex. if he takes two pills every 8 hours, for the first day, take two in the morning, one in the afternoon, & two at night, & on the second day, two in the morning, (or when he takes them) one in the afternoon, & one in the evening. Then stay with that for a couple of days, then one at a time, then after that for a few days, maybe he will only need two that whole day. Try that & he will eventually get off of them. Make sure his doctor knows what is going on also. Hopes that helps.

depends...if hes taking a ''normal'' dose and not getting 2/3 scrips at a time. a week of feeling poor and 2/3 weeks to be ''normal'' lol..the hard part is the mind.iv been on and off opiates for 30 yrs and the physical part is the easy part.good luck

He should go to a doctor and find out the safest way to wean himself from them. With most meds you cannot just stop them cold turkey otherwise you will experience awful symptoms!
